We have free-flow access to the garden and we go outside in all kinds of weathers, using the overalls and wellies that we provide.

Our garden is large and secure, with a wooden two storey playhouse, a climbing frame, slide and swing activity centre, a sandpit and a large trampoline as semi-permanent fixtures. We also have a selection of ride-on toys, water and sand tables, wall friezes and gardening facilities. We grow our own fruit.

The older children have also made a den in the large hedge that they use as an after school and holiday meeting place

The children have access to a large playroom equipped with many toys suitable to their age and needs. We use a mix of free play and structured activities, following the children’s interests and abilities. There are zones within the playroom

for art, reading, dressing up, and roleplay shopping and home corner play.

There is access to a quieter sitting room for children who prefer to read, listen to music and relax. We also use the kitchen for messy play activities, cooking, and art. We have a fully equipped changing station for nappy changes and a bathroom attached to the playroom for older children’s toileting needs.

Forest schools began in Scandinavia in the mid to late 20th Century and have become popular in the UK over the last few years. They offer children a child-led learning experience in the natural world. It also gives them the freedom and opportunity to explore their abilities and to increase their independence and self esteem in a safe, yet challenging environment.

Since 2007, we have taken the children regularly to an area of Witley forest, Alice Holt Forest or Winkworth Arboretum for Forest School activities including minibeast hunts, natural art, measuring and counting, hide and seek, mud play, animal habitats, pond-dipping, building shelters and tree climbing.

We run a playgroup at St. Mark’s Church, open to parents and childcarers. Children are able to socialise in a larger setting and have free access to a garden area with sandpit and outdoor toys, as well as art and craft, singing and signing, and parachute games.

Our outings have been many and varied.

We have taken the children to the seaside, to the London Aquarium, to the Transport museum at Brooklands and to the Science museum in London, as well as more local trips to galleries, country parks, fire stations, and drama shows.
